I still fondly remember it was back in late-2020 at my very first street-side popup when I first heard the story of the “Ice Cream Grandpa”. 4 years later, I’m thrilled to finally bring this remarkably inspiring story to life.
For nearly 70 years, no matter rain or shine, Mr. Wong traveled long distances with his 300lb icecream cart and stationed outside a local school, bringing smiles and building an unbreakable bond with generations of students and teachers till the age of 101.
Mr. Wong departed in 2017 at age 102, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and an undying spirit of perseverance that touched the hearts of many who grew up in Shek Kip Mei. But what’s more poignant perhaps are the numerous memories that many recounted —heartwarming acts of kindness that went both ways.
