Artist’s bio:
Chi-tak Li, dubbed the “Godfather of Hong Kong indie comics” and the “Katsuhiro Otomo of Hong Kong”, is a renowned Hong Kong comics artist who has been working in the field for over 40 years.
Chi-tak Li started his career in 1982 by submitting his works to comic magazines. In 1987, he self-published Tong Men Shao Nian, his first strikingly compelling comic book, followed by a number of well-acclaimed major works including Black Mask, Assassins, Spirit, Tian Yao Ji and K, as well as short comic stories including Selected Works of JackLCT 86-89, Eye Theatre, and Vicious. Covering different genres including fiction, martial heroes, action, romance, mystery and thriller, his works are astonishing, fascinating and amusing, offering his readers ceaseless surprises.
In 2016, Li Chi Tak became the first Hong Kong comics artist to hold a solo exhibition, entitled “LI Chi-tak, Hong Kong Wizard”, at the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival in France. He was also the first Hong Kong comics artist to participate in the BD Louvre project, alongside with publishing the comic book titled Moon of the Moon. His recent publications include Yum Sui, Kafka and A Little Strawberry Vol. 1 (2022 Reprint Edition). Besides comics, Chi-tak Li also works with international brands to produce commercial illustrations.
